Reading | In the Name of Lust: Sex, Shame and Self-Empowerment

BiBerlin e.V. invites you to a reading by authors Nike Wessel & Nana Myrrhe, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A at Metis Books&Cafe!

We at Fachstelle Bi+ are looking forward to an inspiring evening with you, our community, and authors Nike Wessel and Nana Myrrhe. The two will read from their books Sex in Berlin – Guide to Love and Feucht & Fromm – Die schmutzigen Geheimnisse der Purity Culture (Wet & Pious – The Dirty Secrets of Purity Culture).

In the subsequent panel discussion, we will hear their perspectives on the following topics, among others, before you can address your own questions or discussion points to the authors in the Q&A.

  • What is shame?
  • To what extent are lust and sexual identity affected by shame?
  • How do you see the topic of self-empowerment in relation to bi+sexuality?
  • How did you manage to break out of social and/or religious norms? What did you gain/lose in the process?
  • What experiences have you had with coming out or inviting in? What advice can you give to bi+ people who are still worried about it?

Places are limited, so please register for a free ticket and arrive on time so as not to disrupt the reading. Please also remember to return your ticket if you are unable to attend so that we can give your place to someone on the waiting list. You can register here via Eventbrite.

Would you like to support the authors, our association or the bookshop? Follow us via the social media links. Both books can be purchased on site at Metis Books and Cafe!

The panel will be moderated by Lea Holzfurtner, clinical sexologist and board member of BiBerlin e.V.

Metis Books & Café in Prenzlauer Berg: a queer, multilingual bookshop with a café run by Darío, Bruno (he/him).

Feel free to bring your appetite with you – at Metis, you can buy wonderful homemade focaccia and fantastic coffee creations, among other things. (Note from the person typing this event description: Be sure to try the Shakerato coffee!!)

Admission to the reading is free – but we always welcome donations to BiBerlin e.V.!

Doors open at 6.30 pm for a cosy arrival and get-together, and the reading starts at 7 pm.

Access via a mobile ramp is easily possible with the assistance of a person who supervises the entrance at the door on site. Unfortunately, there are no toilets available for people with disabilities. We apologise for this inconvenience.

The language of the event is German.

And now to the wonderful authors:

Nike Wessel (she/her) is a cultural scientist, presenter and founder of the media agency Studio36. In her podcast ‘Sex in Berlin’, she explores the diversity of the sex-positive scene – both in Berlin and around the world. With the book accompanying the podcast, Nike aims to showcase and celebrate this inspiring movement. Her book opens the doors to a scene where art, kink and bodily freedom merge. Sensually illustrated and full of exciting insights, this book celebrates lust, freedom and the courage to rediscover oneself. @sexinberlin

Nana Myrrhe (she/her) is a high libido girl, but sexuality was forbidden to her for years: dating, kissing, touching (herself), sex before marriage – all sinful. That’s what she learned in her free church environment, and she believed her fundamentalist faith community wholeheartedly. Until this worldview began to crack. In her book, the author not only recounts her own experience of the obsession with chastity, but also looks at the system behind it: purity culture. In her podcast FCK PURITY, she and her guests, including her podcast and ex-free church sister Mona Mae, shed light on the dark side of the religious cult of chastity. On social media, she creates content on leaving fundamentalism, liberation from religious shame and healthy spirituality as @heilige.schwester and, as a member of the ruach.jetzt network, gives workshops, lectures and online counselling on leaving fundamentalism.
