Awareness
It is important to us to create a space where everyone can relax and enjoy connecting with their community. We have therefore developed awareness rules for our events.
Code of Conduct at BiBerlin Events
- During introductions, please share your name and pronouns. This makes it easier for non-binary, inter*, and trans* participants in particular to state their pronouns. It is important to us that everyone is addressed correctly.
- We do not tolerate any form of bullying or discrimination. This includes, but is not limited to: sexism, anti-queer and/or trans* hostility, racism, anti-Muslim racism, anti-Semitism, discrimination
based on physical and mental abilities, and body shaming. - We reserve the right to exclude persons who express extreme right-wing, anti-democratic, or dehumanizing views from the event.
- Please ask questions about personal identity or experiences of discrimination in a respectful, open, and non-invasive manner. Please respect it if a person does not want to talk about their identity or experiences.
- Instead of justifying yourself when someone points out discriminatory comments or behavior, please see this feedback as an opportunity for reflection and personal growth.
- We cultivate a culture where mistakes are okay, and where not everyone is expected to be perfect – especially when it comes to things like gender-inclusive language.
- Please respect personal boundaries. These can be expressed verbally or through body language. Please take care not to cross them and always ask before touching someone.
- Please handle other people’s data with care. Always ask before taking or sharing photos or passing on someone’s contact details.
- Be friendly and open, but don‘t push for private contact if there is no interest.
- Awareness and well-being are a shared responsibility. We all contribute to creating a respectful and supportive environment. If you see or hear something that is not right, we encourage you to speak out and/or reach out to organizers or other attendees.
- Belonging to FLINTA* (women, lesbians*, intersex, non-binary, trans*, and agender people) is always based on self-definition; trans* and intersex men are also invited. This is independent of external labels or perceptions. If you feel irritated, please question your own gender categories or stereotypes. If you have any questions or uncertainties, you can also contact one of the hosts, but not the person who is causing you this irritation.
What can you do if you have a problem?
- If you experience a violation of the code of conduct, please reach out to the organizing team! We are here for you and will support you in finding a solution.
- In case of further violations of the code of conduct, the organizing team may remove individuals from an event.
- If an individual’s behavior does not improve after several warnings, it may result in their exclusion from all future BiBerlin events if necessary.
- We care about our community and want to be as supportive as possible. However, we are not mental health professionals or therapists. If an attendee has a mental health crisis at one of our
meetings, we may not always be able to help. If possible, we may give suggestions about where they can go for help or information.
